The Imporance of Reading to Children

by Mike Hampton on September 7, 2009

Right from birth, as responsible and loving parents of any child, no matter where you live, no matter what race, creed or colour you are, you should begin reading stories and books to your children.

In today’s modern world it’s all too easy to be worn out with the responsibilities of parenthood, work, home life and other personal and relationship issues that this concept of reading to children from an early age is often left out to save time, the common misconception being that as a baby the child will neither understand your words nor follow any story you have to read or tell.

Children need to hear your spoken language, the inflection and the intonation of your voice so that they too may learn to speak themselves, to form words of their own, to be able to express their opinions, answer your questions, interact with you – their parents on a daily basis.

Reading is one of my personal favourite past-times, there are so many wonderful authors and creative writers out there. There is so much inspiration and motivation to be gained from reading stories and books. There truly is something out there for everyone, and every child to benefit from.

Check out the video below for further inspiration and reasons as to why you should read to your child today or tonight and why you should buy The Primate Puzzle, a new book by author Oliver Nash
